Wisconsin has the highest percentage of African-American people in jail.
I first read Michael Ventura’s essay, “Hear That Long Snake Moan” over twenty years ago. I just had occasion to reread it. It’s good when something from that long ago still has the power to move me.
Recycling companies need to do a much better job of educating Americans in order to get a cleaner recycling stream.

This is what I’m currently working on. It’s mostly pastel pencils on Golden watercolor ground. I have a bit of a love hate relationship with the medium. I may have to work larger in order to get the kind of detail I want.

Native American societies in Wisconsin built more effigy mounds than did those in any other region of North America . . . between 15 and 20 thousand of them, thousands of which remain. Wisconsin Historical Society Archaeologist Amy Rosebrough talks about some recent discoveries about the Wisconsin mound culture. Along the way, we’ll get a glimpse of what Wisconsin was like a thousand and more years ago, and find out how this area was connected to other parts of the country by trade and religion.
