Satyr Number 1

I’ve been doing lots of mermaids lately so I thought I should try a satyr. 3 inches by 4 inches on bamboo multimedia paper using Derwent Drawing colored pencil.

Mushroom Matrix

One from the vaults. I did this back in 2012. Obviously there are some issues with it but I still like. It’s something I woould like to revisit at some point. As I recall this was done in Pen & Ink with a little bit of digital cleanup.

Mermaid #4

Stylized image of Mermaid child.

I hadn’t intended to make this mermaid so young looking but that’s just the way things turn out some times.

2.5 x 3.5 inches on Fabriano Artistico HP paper. Colored pencil over watercolor background.

Abstract Mushroom Doodle

Just testing out how well Aristico Fabriano HP Extra White works with colored pencil. I like the color depth I can get by layering.

Mermaid #3

Trying for an older look to this mermaid’s face. I like the feeling of energy that the cross-hatching gives this piece. A lot of my compositions are way too static.

4.5 x 6.5 inches
Colored pencil on Stonehenge Aqua HP paper.

Wondewell Movie

I recently got around to watching “Wonderwell”, Carrie Fischer’s last movie. Overall I enjoyed it, I think probably for a lot of the same reasons that a lot of reviewers were uninspired by it. It’s not a cut and dried fantasy movie where you easily know what’s going on. Instead you’re left with lot’s of questions. It’s clearly about female adolescence but what does the mirror world represent? Why are the sister witches in conflict with each other? Is the flower symbolism too heavy-handed or just right?

If you like fantasy movies that deal with real issues and don’t have interminable fight scenes you might enjoy Wonderwell.

Josef Maria Auchentaller Drawing

I love the sense of swirling motion that Josef Maria Auchentaller gets in this drawing with so little detail. I wish the quality of the photo were better but I suspect that it’s a scan of a magazine illustration from the 1910’s.
