https://collections.artsmia.org/art/51102/goblin-dance-bertha-lumThere’s a lovely sense of movement in this print. How does Lum achieve this? The colors on this seem streaky. Is that deliberate, bad printing or a function of age? I think it’s actually the grain of the wood. #TraditionalArt #Woodblock

Derwent Lightfast Coloured Pencils not as Soft as their ColourSoft Line
I placed an order for some of the Derwent ColourSoft pencils that I didn’t already have in those colours. All the colours I bought would be considered lightfast but I wanted to to try filling in some additional colours by ordering from Derwent’s “Lightfast” line. So I ordered the”Turquoise Green”. As a color it’s nice… Continue reading Derwent Lightfast Coloured Pencils not as Soft as their ColourSoft Line
Minor update on Tree Medallion Colored Pencil Play
Playing with Colored Pencils
4″by 6″ Lately I’ve been getting back into colored pencils. Mostly because they require so much less planning than watercolors and it just feels freeing to use a pencil instead of a brush. I’ve also discovered Derwent Coloured Pencils. I’ve tried both their ColourSoft and their Colour Drawing pencils. They are much softer than the… Continue reading Playing with Colored Pencils
Watercolor Tree October 12
This one is almost done. I’m trying to decide if I should define some of the edges a bit more. I am starting to feel like I am getting the hang of this painting stuff a bit. .
Frank Lloyd Wright’s Imperial Hotel in Japan
I had always thought that Frank Lloyd Wright’s Imperial hotel in Japan had been demolished in the 50’s. Turns out that the section holding the hotel rooms was demolished. But the main lobby was saved and moved to a different location. One more reason I would like to visit Japan. https://www.imperialhotel.co.jp/e/our_world/column/the_wright_imperial_2.html
Moontree Bookmark
Another bookmark design. I’m having a little trouble photographing this one. The colors are a bit harsh and grainy.
Green Goddess Bookmark up on eBay
So… I’ve started listing some bookmarks up on eBay. They’re all original paintings even though many of them share similar designs. The first one is this “Green Goddess”. If you’re interested it’s here.
Another Stylized Tree Medallion
I keep coming back to images like this one. A stylized tree inside a circular design. I haven’t posted much art lately. Not because I haven’t been making art. It’s that a lot of it was unsatisfactory (bad). Then I got out of the habit even after I was making art that I did like.… Continue reading Another Stylized Tree Medallion
Dirigibles In Alaska
I’ve always liked the idea of dirigibles but they have never been successful as ordinary freight carriers. They simply can’t carry enough to justify their cost. The only time they were commercially successful was in the twenties and thirties when they were the equivelent of the Concorde, the fastest and most expensive way to cross… Continue reading Dirigibles In Alaska
