Tree Medallion #1

An early experiment (they’re all experiments, aren’t they?) with colored pencil over watercolors. It was a bear to photograph because my camera was making it look way too grainy. I ended up using the blur filter in order to make it look right. Still a little work to do on it. I want to define the right side of the “halo” a little more.

Went a Little Crazy with the Watercolor on this Scarab Background

So I was a little bored with this colored pencil drawing of a scarab and I knew I was planning to try a watercolor background even though it’s not watercolor paper. And things happened… I’m actually pleasantly surprised by how well this turned out. I knew the paper would buckle, especially given that I really soaked it with water, but it’s dried perfectly flat. The paper is 8×10 inch Strathmore 400 drawing paper. Now I have to go in and punch up the colors on the scarab.

Watercolor Tree October 12

This one is almost done. I’m trying to decide if I should define some of the edges a bit more. I am starting to feel like I am getting the hang of this painting stuff a bit.

Reflections on setting up a Zazzle store.

So I finally opened my Zazzle store.  It was a frustrating process.  The biggest frustration being that it has typically taken a week for items to show up in the store after I created them on the site.  This despite Zazzle’s statement that they would appear in 24 hours or less.  And getting an email from Zazzle that they were ready to go in that 24 hour time frame.  Another source of frustration is that Zazzle’s UI for sellers is just confusing.  First of all you have to realize that you have two profiles.  One as a buyer and one as a seller.  It’s often unclear which profile you’re

currently in, especially since buyers can also create items, they just can’t sell them.  There’s also the fact that Zazzle doesn’t clearly distinguish between when you’re creating the name of your store and when you’re creating the URL of your store.  I’ve created stores on both Amazon and Ebay and this has easily been the most frustrating to deal with.
